OUR FOUNDER

Laughing Giraffe Books was founded by Alexandra Morrill, an educator turned entrepreneur, and mother of two young girls.

After receiving a B.A. from Cornell University and a Masters Degree in Education from the University of Virginia, Alexandra worked as a special education teacher and reading specialist in both Virginia and Massachusetts. With each passing year, and across a variety of different schools, settings and students, the one constant was Alexandra’s excitement in getting young children, particularly non-readers and struggling readers, hooked on reading.

With the arrival of her girls (19 months apart), and her new role as a stay at home mother, Alexandra learned to “practice what she preached.” She also discovered how difficult a task this can be when simultaneously juggling the day-to-day needs of both a household and a family. And, that was with years of professional experience in this very endeavor!

An avid reader and collector of children’s books- her closet contains significantly more books than clothing- Alexandra pondered how she could combine her love of children’s literature, excitement with getting young readers hooked, and experiences as a parent, and Laughing Giraffe Books was born. Alexandra harnessed her experiences as a reading specialist and as a parent to fill a void in the children’s book industry.

Laughing Giraffe Books provides hand-selected, quality book sets and book of the
month collections that get kids excited about reading, helping to create a new
generation of lifelong readers.
